These oral interviews feature unique insights by having multi-layered conversations between multiple generations. The interviews were purposefully held with multiple generations sitting along-side each other.
This dynamic format allowed us to capture the ramifications of family separations, reunifications, and adaptions to a new life in America with open and honest dialog. The stories of second-generation immigration is complex but rooted with great resilience.
Original Interviews
Below are excerpts from the original interviews of 13 Romanian-American families who immigrated after 1989. Marriage, education and job opportunities were key reasons for immigration to the US and to Minnesota in particular. This documentary focuses on fostering conversations with second-generation immigrants who are overcoming struggles to integrate into a new culture and find their identity.
